About This Course

In this course, you will gain a pilot’s-eye view of the environment and human sensory systems at work in flight.

You’ll explore the structure and function of the atmosphere, how oxygen availability changes with altitude, and why partial pressure matters for pilot safety. You will learn how the eye processes light, colour, and motion; how blind spots and visual defects can affect situational awareness; and the importance of proper correction for eyesight issues in aviation.

We will also dive into the anatomy of the ear and the vestibular system, uncovering illusions like “The Leans” and “Somatogravic” effects that can deceive even experienced pilots. Finally, you’ll understand how motion sickness develops, its symptoms, and practical strategies to maintain peak performance in the cockpit.
